About the Kayak I Designed
Sea kayaks usually come with handles at the bow and stern to make carrying easier. Most designs achieve this by drilling holes into the hull and threading ropes through.
For my design, I wanted to avoid drilling into the kayak, so I experimented with hand-weaving paracord directly around the bow and stern. This preserves the integrity of the hull while also giving the handles a simple, handmade look. It serves the same practical purpose—just without the holes—and adds a touch of craft.
Each handle is something I personally wove by hand. It takes some time and focus to get right. But during that quiet process, I spend time just being with the kayak—thinking about where it might go, and who might use it. Every knot is a small moment of attention and imagination.
To me, this isn’t just about finishing a part of the kayak. It’s a way of building a small connection with it.
